Rechnungskit
Rechnungskit vs. Qonto

Add automatic invoices and DATEV bookings to Qonto

Rechnungskit complements your Qonto account instead of replacing it: Qonto stays your business account and receipt collector. Rechnungskit turns every shop order and every Stripe payment into a ZUGFeRD invoice, archives it in line with GoBD and passes revenue, fees and payouts on as finished DATEV bookings. In Qonto you write invoices by hand, and your tax advisor gets bank transactions and document images, not booking records.

The short version

Rechnungskit fits if …

you want invoices from your shop and from Stripe to be created automatically, with the date of supply, a cancellation invoice on refunds and finished DATEV bookings, instead of invoicing every order by hand in Qonto.

Qonto fits if …

you need a business account with cards, sub-accounts and management of incoming receipts, or you're a service provider who writes a handful of invoices by hand each month. That's Qonto's core and not what Rechnungskit covers.

It's not either/or but two layers: Qonto is the account and collects receipts, Rechnungskit is the invoicing and compliance layer for your shop and Stripe. The difference shows at your tax advisor's: from Qonto come bank transactions and document images, from Rechnungskit come finished booking records with the linked document.

When is Qonto the better choice?

Rechnungskit doesn't do everything. In these cases, Qonto is the more honest recommendation.

You need the business account

Account, cards, sub-accounts, transfers and direct debits are Qonto's core. Rechnungskit is not a bank and doesn't want to be one; your account stays with Qonto.

You only write a few invoices by hand

Service providers with a handful of invoices a month, quotes and recurring invoices are well served by Qonto. Rechnungskit pays off when invoices should come from orders and payments.

You want to collect incoming receipts

Forwarding receipts by email, importing from Drive and similar, and certifying uploaded receipts are Qonto features. Rechnungskit creates outgoing invoices and archives its own documents, not anyone else's.

Your shop is small and your tax advisor books by hand

Few orders, one tax rate, hardly any refunds and a tax advisor who splits Stripe payouts themselves: then going without Rechnungskit costs tax advisor hours, not compliance. Ask your tax advisor first what the manual work costs you.

What Rechnungskit does differently

Invoicing

Invoicing on the correct date of supply

Shipped goods are invoiced on the shipping date, not the payment date. It sounds like a detail, but it decides which period the revenue lands in.

Date of supply (Leistungsdatum) from the shop's shipping event
Small-amount invoices automatically under §33 UStDV
Handover to DATEV in the right period
Tax compliance

VAT ID check with evidence archive

Qualified check with the BZSt (Federal Central Tax Office) including company name, city, postcode and street. The response is archived unchanged for eight years and linked to the individual invoice.

Qualified BZSt check instead of a simple format check
Response linked to the invoice and delivery date
No tax-exempt invoice without a usable check
Accounting

DATEV bookings with linked documents

Your tax advisor gets finished EXTF booking records, not just a folder of PDFs. Revenue, payments, fees and payouts are already matched, and every invoice booking carries a Beleglink to its document image in the "Belegtransfer" package for Unternehmen online.

EXTF bookings for SKR03 and SKR04
Document image attached to the booking via Beleglink
Fees and payouts already matched
Your tax advisor downloads them directly

Worked example
Online shop with 500 orders a month via Stripe: Qonto Smart (€19) includes the account, accounting access and the Stripe receipts on the bank transaction. The 500 invoices are created by hand or via Zapier, and your tax advisor books Stripe revenue, fees and payouts from the bank transaction and document image.

Switching in three steps

1
Bring your data over

Orders and payments from your connected sources are pulled in, and your invoice number sequence continues. Old documents stay available in your previous system; Rechnungskit doesn't import invoices created elsewhere.

2
Test in parallel

Both systems run side by side for one billing period. You compare documents and bookings before anything goes live.

3
Switch over

Sending is switched over and your tax advisor gets the new export access. The old system stays in place as an archive.

FAQ

No. Qonto stays your business account with cards, receipt forwarding and the bank transaction feed to your tax advisor. Rechnungskit takes over invoicing for your shop and Stripe, the GoBD archive of those documents and the DATEV bookings. You then no longer need Qonto's invoicing feature for these sales; you can keep using it for quotes or individual service invoices.

Yes, and that's the usual way to switch. You run both systems in parallel for one billing period and compare documents and bookings before you switch over.

They stay where they are. Rechnungskit doesn't import or archive invoices created elsewhere; you keep meeting your retention duty for old documents (eight years under § 14b (1) UStG and § 147 (3) AO) in your previous system. What Rechnungskit can pull in are past orders and payments from your connected shops and payment providers, which then become new, validated invoices. For the number sequence, you set the number Rechnungskit continues from, so nothing overlaps with your old documents.

Documents are stored tamper-proof and unchangeable for eight years for as long as your account exists (WORM archive with checksums). Eight years is the retention period for invoices and accounting records (§ 14b (1) UStG, § 147 (3) AO); the requirements for the archive are set out in the GoBD. You can export them at any time, and for 90 days free of charge after you cancel. The final assessment of your process documentation (Verfahrensdokumentation) is up to your tax advisor.

For everything that happens by hand between order and booking. In Qonto you create every invoice yourself; Rechnungskit creates it from the shop order or the Stripe payment, with the date of supply from shipping, the right tax rate and its own cancellation invoice when you refund. With a few invoices a month, that's no argument. With a few hundred orders, it's the difference between an afternoon of manual work and none at all.

It depends on what arrives. Qonto passes bank transactions via the DATEV bank data service and, once a day, the document images to Unternehmen online. Qonto itself says that no transaction data is transferred, only the document image. So every booking, such as revenue at 19%, revenue at 7%, Stripe fee, money in transit, is created at your tax firm. Rechnungskit delivers exactly these booking records ready-made as an EXTF file, each invoice booking with a Beleglink to its document image. Ask your tax advisor how they book a Stripe payout today; the answer shows whether this is worth it for you.

At Qonto, as one bank transaction with the Stripe receipt attached. But it contains many payments, the Stripe fees and possibly refunds. Rechnungskit breaks the payout down into its parts and books revenue by tax rate, fees and money in transit separately, so the entry on the bank account in DATEV is cleanly offset against money in transit.

Yes, and that's the normal case. Rechnungskit is not a bank and doesn't need access to your account. Qonto stays your account, cards and receipt collector; the bank transaction feed to your tax advisor keeps running as before. Rechnungskit only takes over invoicing for your shop and Stripe, the archive of those documents and the matching DATEV bookings.

Qonto talks about GoBD-compliant storage and certifies uploaded receipts with a timestamp. For the invoices you keep writing in Qonto, that remains your archive. Invoices created by Rechnungskit sit in the Rechnungskit archive, locked from creation with a SHA-256 checksum, and can be exported free of charge for 90 days after you cancel. Rechnungskit doesn't import documents from Qonto.

From the providers' publicly available sources, checked on July 28, 2026, with footnotes for each row. Where we found no reliable source, the table says "Not documented". If you spot a mistake, write to support@rechnungskit.de and we'll correct it and re-date the page.

More comparisons

Rechnungskit is not a tax advisory or law firm. This article explains general principles and does not replace advice from a tax advisor (Steuerberater, § 5 StBerG) or a lawyer (§ 3 RDG). Rechnungskit is built for businesses based in Germany and prepares documents, tax rates and bookings automatically. How your specific case is treated remains your decision, ideally together with your tax advisor or a lawyer.
