Rechnungskit
Rechnungskit vs. CopeCart

CopeCart alternative: sell in your own name instead of through a reseller

Rechnungskit lets you sell courses, downloads, licenses and subscriptions in your own name, without a shop: one checkout link per product, payment through your Mollie, Stripe, PayPal or Unzer account, and right after payment the e-invoice with your own number sequence, a GoBD archive and finished DATEV bookings. CopeCart buys your products as a reseller, resells them to the end customer, issues the invoice in its own name and sends you a credit note once a month.

The short version

Rechnungskit fits if …

you want to remain your customers' contracting party: your own name and number sequence on the invoice, money straight from your payment provider instead of after 14 and 40 days, and your tax advisor gets booking records with documents instead of a monthly credit note plus CSV.

CopeCart fits if …

you want to hand off VAT, dunning, debt collection, affiliates, installment payments and withdrawals entirely, and accept 4.9% plus €1 per sale and payouts in two steps in return. For these sales you then don't need invoicing software; the monthly credit note is your record.

Two models, not two tools for the same job: with CopeCart, CopeCart sells; with Rechnungskit, you sell. That decides whose name is on the invoice, who owes the VAT, when the money arrives and what your tax advisor books.

When is CopeCart the better choice?

Rechnungskit doesn't do everything. In these cases, CopeCart is the more honest recommendation.

You want to hand off VAT completely

As a reseller, CopeCart owes the VAT on end-customer sales and files it in the EU and the UK. With Rechnungskit you sell yourself and need the OSS scheme once you pass the EU threshold; Rechnungskit monitors the threshold and delivers the OSS evaluation, while filing stays with you or your tax advisor.

You sell through affiliates, funnels and installments

Affiliate network, order bumps, upsells, installment payments and pay-by-invoice with debt collection are CopeCart's core. The Rechnungskit checkout handles one-time purchases and subscriptions with a trial period; affiliates, funnels and installments are missing there.

You don't want to handle dunning and debt collection yourself

CopeCart sends reminders on day 5, 10 and 20 and hands open receivables to a debt collection partner, included in the vendor account. For pay-by-invoice, Rechnungskit sends two payment reminders and does not hand over to debt collection.

You don't want your own payment provider contract

At CopeCart, payment processing and nine payment methods are included in the fee. For the Rechnungskit checkout you need your own contract with Mollie, Stripe, PayPal or Unzer; their fees come on top of the Rechnungskit price.

What Rechnungskit does differently

Tax compliance

VAT ID check in your own checkout

When a business from another EU country enters its VAT ID at checkout, Rechnungskit runs a qualified check with the BZSt, including company name and address. Only if it is confirmed is the invoice issued without VAT and with a reverse-charge note. The response stays in the archive for eight years, linked to the invoice.

Qualified BZSt check right in the checkout
Reverse charge only with a confirmed VAT ID, never for consumers
The check never blocks the purchase
Accounting

Booking records instead of a monthly credit note

Your tax advisor gets an EXTF booking record per sale with a Beleglink to the invoice, plus your payment provider's payouts broken down into revenue by tax rate, fees and money in transit. From CopeCart, they book one credit note a month and the payouts in two tranches, from a PDF and a CSV.

Digital products, 500 sales a month at €50 gross each (€25,000): CopeCart keeps 4.9% plus €1 per sale, so €1,725, including payment processing, tax remittance and debt collection. Rechnungskit costs €68 for invoices, archive and DATEV; your provider's payment fees come on top.

Switching in three steps

1
Set up products

Create courses, downloads, licenses or subscriptions as products in Rechnungskit and connect your own Mollie, Stripe, PayPal or Unzer account. Each product gets a checkout link.

2
Test in parallel

In sandbox mode you buy once yourself: invoice, number sequence, the webhook that unlocks the course, DATEV export. Only then do you go live.

3
Swap the links

The buy buttons on your site point to the Rechnungskit checkout. Running subscriptions stay with the old platform until customers sign up again; the old credit notes stay there as records.

FAQ

For sales in your own name, yes; for the reseller model, no. As long as CopeCart resells your products, CopeCart issues the invoice and you don't need invoicing software for that. Rechnungskit is the alternative if you want to be the seller yourself: your own checkout link, payment through your provider, your own e-invoice, GoBD archive and DATEV bookings. You don't get affiliates, installment payments or debt collection with it.

Yes, and that's the usual way to switch. You run both systems in parallel for one billing period and compare documents and bookings before you switch over.

They stay where they are. Rechnungskit doesn't import or archive invoices created elsewhere; you keep meeting your retention duty for old documents (eight years under § 14b (1) UStG and § 147 (3) AO) in your previous system. What Rechnungskit can pull in are past orders and payments from your connected shops and payment providers, which then become new, validated invoices. For the number sequence, you set the number Rechnungskit continues from, so nothing overlaps with your old documents.

Documents are stored tamper-proof and unchangeable for eight years for as long as your account exists (WORM archive with checksums). Eight years is the retention period for invoices and accounting records (§ 14b (1) UStG, § 147 (3) AO); the requirements for the archive are set out in the GoBD. You can export them at any time, and for 90 days free of charge after you cancel. The final assessment of your process documentation (Verfahrensdokumentation) is up to your tax advisor.

Yes, that's what the Rechnungskit checkout is built for. You create the product, set the price and tax rate and get a link (checkout.rechnungskit.de/c/your-product) to put in your bio, newsletter or website; for subscriptions there is a separate link per plan, with a trial period if you want. Payment happens on your provider's payment page; Rechnungskit issues the e-invoice right after payment, because digital services don't need a shipping date. You trigger the unlock in your course platform or the download link via a webhook, for example with Zapier, Make or n8n. You don't need any shop integration for this.

CopeCart buys your product and resells it in its own name to the end customer. That makes CopeCart your customers' contracting party: the invoice to the customer comes from CopeCart, and CopeCart owes the VAT on that sale. You have exactly one customer: CopeCart. Once a month you get a credit note for your sales in the previous month. With Rechnungskit you are the seller yourself: your name and number sequence are on the invoice, the money runs through your payment provider, and you owe the VAT.

Not for sales through CopeCart. CopeCart issues the invoice to the end customer; you book the monthly credit note and the payouts. You only need invoicing software once you sell in your own name, for example with CopeCart Pro, your own shop or the Rechnungskit checkout. Then all of a seller's obligations apply: an invoice with the mandatory details, a number sequence, an archive, VAT.

With CopeCart, one credit note a month, the payouts in two tranches and the deductions for refunds and fees. The basis is the credit note as a PDF and a transaction CSV. With Rechnungskit, every invoice as a booking record in DATEV format with a Beleglink, plus your payment provider's payouts broken down into revenue by tax rate, fees and money in transit. One means fewer bookings, the other means finished bookings. Ask your tax advisor which they prefer.

CopeCart pays out 80% after 14 days and the rest after 40 days, on the 7th, 14th, 21st or 28th of a month; with Fast Payout, for a 0.5% surcharge, the first 80% arrive after 7 days. With Rechnungskit, payment runs directly through your contract with Mollie, Stripe, PayPal or Unzer; when the provider pays out is set by its payout schedule, not by Rechnungskit.

According to CopeCart, CopeCart Pro is not a reseller model: you sell in your own name, and CopeCart doesn't appear as the seller on the invoice. That gives you the same obligations as with Rechnungskit: invoice, number sequence, archive and VAT. Fees, eligibility and whether Pro invoices are created as e-invoices within the meaning of § 14 UStG are not publicly documented; payouts follow the same 80/20 schedule.

You set up new sales as products in the Rechnungskit checkout and link the new payment link instead of the CopeCart link. Running CopeCart subscriptions continue at CopeCart; subscriptions or payment mandates can't be transferred from CopeCart, so your customers sign up for a new subscription with you. The old invoices and credit notes stay at CopeCart, where you keep meeting your retention duty as before.
